It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Beer: Surly Xtra

Well, beer #8 in the beer advent calendar is another citra-hopped pale ale.  It's Surly's Xtra, and at only 4.5% ABV, it's sessionable, or at least it would be if it wasn't so hoppy.  While Surly is one of the Midwest's many great craft breweries, clearly I'm not a fan of their hoppy beers (or any other brewery, for that matter).  I do very much appreciate some of their darker, heavier beers, particularly the aptly named Russian imperial stout, Darkness, as well as their Belgian-style quad, Eleven.  Hopefully, things turn malty tomorrow.
