Thirty-five years ago today, British new wavers Modern English released their second album, After the Snow, which featured the band's biggest hit, "I Melt With You." Given how ubiquitous the song has become, I had assumed it was a huge hit for the group, but it actually only got to #83 on the Billboard Hot 100. Of course, the video was hugely popular, and the song was used in the '80s classic film, Valley Girl. It has since been part of a Burger King ad campaign, and was ranked #39 VH1's Top 100 Songs of the '80s, as well as #7 on VH1's Greatest One Hit Wonders of the '80s. Interesting tidbit: according to the lead singer of the band, the song is about banging during a nuclear attack. "Melt" takes on a whole new literal meaning that I wasn't expecting.
