AC/DC lead singer (I refuse to call him their former lead singer) Brian Johnson turns the big 7-0 today. In my opinion, the Hair Band Era started with the release of AC/DC's Back in Black album in July 1980 -- Johnson's first album with the band after original lead singer Bon Scott died of alcohol poisoning and/or choking on his own vomit. Produced by hard rock wunderkind producer Mutt Lange, Back in Black has gone on to become the second-highest selling album of all-time worldwide, behind only Michael Jackson's Thriller, selling over 50 million copies.
While there are many great options on the album (and in AC/DC's '80s and early '90s catalog in general), I'm going with the title track. Written as kind of tribute to Bon Scott, the song is a classic, instantly recognizable and forever badass. Simply put, it's one of the best hard rock songs of all-time.
