Today's CoronaVinyl category is "J," and I saw Journey this past weekend at Lollapalooza, so I'm going with their eighth studio album, 1983's Frontiers.
The album was the bands third of five consecutive Top 10 studio albums in the U.S., reaching #2 on the Billboard album chart. It is also their second-best-selling studio album in the U.S., going 6x platinum (behind only 1981's Escape, which is certified diamond). Frontiers was also their highest-charting song in the UK, going to #6 on the UK albums chart.
The album featured four Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, all of which reached the Top 25: "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" (#8), "Faithfully" (#12), "After the Fall" (#23), and "Send Her My Love" (#23).
The Spotify version of the album has four bonus tracks, including the song "Only the Young," which was originally recorded for this album, but wasn't released until 1985 as part of the Vision Quest soundtrack, going to #9 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Favorite song from Side 1: "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)"
This was the song that Journey kicked off their set with at Lolla, and it's one of my favorite Journey songs. It's a fist pumper.
Favorite song from Side 2: "Edge of the Blade"
The second side kicks off with a heavy guitar riff, and this song seems like it would have been perfect during a training montage in an '80s movie about hockey or figure skating.
