This past Sunday was the 40th anniversary of the U.S. release of The Kinks' 19th studio album, Give The People What They Want (it was released in January 1982 in the UK). The band proved that they weren't relics of the '60s and '70s, with an updated sound that was very post-punk. The album went to #15 on the Billboard album chart, despite the fact that the only two singles from the album -- "Better Things" and "Destroyer" -- barely cracked the Billboard Hot 100, reaching #90 and #80, respectively.
I was hoping there was a video for "Destroyer" because it's a great song, and an underrated one in The Kinks' massive catalog. But alas, they didn't do a video for that one, so I went with the title track, which is a nice little new wavish, punkish song with a video that shows the band playing the song in front of a table, where people dressed in '20s garb are eating an opulent meal.
