Assuming the coronavirus hasn't killed us all by then, this Friday will mark the 25th anniversary of the release of Adina Howard's debut album, Do You Wanna Ride?, which has since been certified gold in the U.S. The album was Howard's only album to chart on the Billboard 200 album charts, reaching #39. If you know any song by Adina Howard, it is likely her biggest hit off of this album (or any album, for that matter), "Freak Like Me."
Kept out of the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard R&B Singles charts only by Montell Jordan's seminal "This is How We Do It," "Freak Like Me" not only hit #2 on both of those charts, but also ended up as the #13 song on the Billboard Hot 100 Year-End chart for 1995. The song is a simple request: she just wants a freak (like her) at certain times of the day -- specifically, the morning and the evening. Between noon and 5 p.m., you can be as unfreaky as you want.
