RESULTS: Sweet 16 Voting for Coolest American Man of the Last 100 Years

Voting for the Sweet 16 round of the Coolest American Man of the Last 100 Years is complete, and we had some major upsets.  Up is down.  Down is up.  But cool is cool.

I should also note that, if there is a tie in the voting, the tiebreaker goes to the higher seed.  Let's break it down:

The Dead Man's Bracket

Athletes
1-seed Wilt Chamberlain dominated 5-seed Jackie Robinson like he did with so many opposing centers and vaginas, taking home a 68%-32% win.

2-seed Muhammad Ali crushed 3-seed Mickey Mantle like the Mick did with so many baseballs and bottles of vodka before noon, 95%-5%.

Thus, the Elite Eight matchup will b the top two seeds:
(1) Wilt Chamberlain vs. (2) Muhammad Ali

Hollywood
In the battle of amateur race car drivers, top-seed Paul Newman dumped 5-seed Steve McQueen, with a solid 79%-21% margin.

In the other matchup, 2-seed James Dean was upset by 3-seed Bruce Lee, 58%-42%.  The dragon has entered.

The Elite Eight matchup will be:
(1) Paul Newman vs.(3) Bruce Lee

Musicians
This is where we started to see some major upsets, with the top two seeds tumbling in the Sweet 16.

In one matchup, The Lizard King, 4-seed Jim Morrison, proved once again that he can do anything, topping The King of Rock & Roll, 1-seed Elvis Presley, by a 58%-42% margin.

In the other tilt, purple androgyny beat out old-school crooning and whiskey drinking, as 3-seed Prince upset 2-seed Frank Sinatra quite handily, 68%-32%.

The Elite Eight matchup will be:
(3) Prince vs. (4) Jim Morrison

Other
This one went chalk without any real contests.
1-seed Hugh Hefner trounced 4-seed Anthony Bourdain, 79%-21%, while 2-seed Ernest Hemingway topped 6-seed Evel Knievel, 74%-26%.

The Elite Eight matchup will be:
(1) Hugh Hefner vs. (2) Ernest Hemingway

The Living Man's Bracket

Athletes
Two of the biggest icons of '80s and '90s sports and Nike ads will be facing off here, as 1-seed Michael Jordan went all Leonard Marshall on 5-seed Joe Montana, winning 89%-11%, and 7-seed Bo Jackson continued his Cinderella run, beating 6-seed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, 79%-21%.

Does Bo know how to defeat His Airness?  Certainly Mars Blackman and Bo Diddley will have some side action on this one.

The Elite Eight will be:
(1) Michael Jordan vs. (7) Bo Jackson

Hollywood
We had some more major upsets here, as the top two seeds tumbled.

1-seed Brad Pitt -- once thought unbeatable until at least the Living Man's finals -- was taken to task by 4-seed Robert Redford, 74%-26%.  The teacher is still the teacher, and the student is still the student.

In the other matchup, 2-seed Clint Eastwood fell 3-seed Matthew McConaughey, 63%-37%.  Apparently, naked bongos trumps Dirty Harry.

The Elite Eight matchup will be:
(3) Matthew McConaughey vs. (4) Robert Redford

Musicians
Our third 1-seed went down in the Living Musicians bracket, as 1-seed Bruce Springsteen was narrowly upset by 4-seed Slash, 53%-47%.

The hard rock over blue collar rock trend continued in the other matchup, as 2-seed Dave Grohl beat 6-seed John Mellencamp, 58%-42%.

The Elite Eight matchup will be:
(2) Dave Grohl vs. (4) Slash

Other
Finally, in the Other Living bracket, in the pilot vs. pilot matchup, top seed Chuck Yeager shot 4-seed Buzz Aldrin down, 58%-42%.  In the Maverick billionaire vs. maverick billionaire matchup (see what I did there?), 3-seed Mark Cuban crushed 7-seed Ted Turner, 84%-16%.

The Elite Eight matchup will be:
(1) Chuck Yeager vs. (3) Mark Cuban

We will post a separate post momentarily for Elite Eight voting.
