Ready to feel old? This Saturday will mark the 20th anniversary of the release of Britney Spears's debut album, . . . Baby One More Time (ellipses and all). It was a massive success for the teenager from Louisiana, hitting #1 on the Billboard 200 album charts, as well as #1 in five other countries and the Top 10 on album charts in another thirteen. It ended up as the #2 album on Billboard's year-end album chart for 1999, #17 on the year-end chart for 2000, #29 on the decade-end chart for the '90s, #81 on the decade-end chart for the 2000s, and #41 on the all-time Billboard album chart. Needless to say, it's been certified Diamond by the RIAA.
The album featured four Top 40 songs on the Billboard Hot 100: the title track (#1), "Sometimes" (#21), "(You Drive Me) Crazy" (#10), and "From the Bottom of My Broken Heart" (#14). It was arguably the greatest thing that happened to her other than Kevin Federline.
I'm going with the iconic video to the title track, which was actually release a few months before the album as her debut single. You know it. Here it is.
