Tomorrow is the 30th anniversary of the release of hip hop queens Salt-N-Pepa's third studio album, Blacks' Magic, which would eventually go platinum in the U.S. The album featured four songs that would chart on the Billboard Hot 100 -- "Expression" (#26), "Do You Want Me" (#21), "Let's Talk About Sex" (#13), and "You Showed Me" (#47).
In the infancy of AIDS awareness (and acceptance) and the transition from the '80s decade-of-decadence and objectification-of-women mentality to the more realistic take on sex and relationships that we had in the '90s, "Let's Talk About Sex" and its message -- "let's talk about all the good things and the bad things that may be" -- was a perfect song for 1990. As mentioned above, it went up to #13 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Salt-N-Pepa's biggest hit to that point.
In this COVID-19 lockdown, it's important to talk about sex, especially those of you who will be holed up (pun intended, motherfuckers!) with significant others for the foreseeable future. I think we can reasonably expect a bumper crop of babies between December 2020 and February 2021. Also, let's all remember to practice safe pandemic sex, whether that means full latex body suits where only your privates and other erogenous zones are uncovered, both of you wearing full gas masks (and nothing else) while doing the deed, or just your good old-fashioned doggy-style or reverse cowgirl, make sure to do anything you can to prevent the spread of COVID-19 while still getting your freak on.
