Well fuck it all. In the wake of the Coronavirus, the ACC, America East, American, Atlantic 10, Big 12, Big Sky, Big Ten, Big West, Conference USA, MAC, Pac-12, SEC, Southland, Sun Belt, SWAC, and WAC all canceled the rest of their conference tournaments, and then the Big East canceled the rest of their tournament at halftime of its first quarterfinal game (between St. John's and Creighton) earlier today.
The MAAC and MEAC are the only remaining conferences with ongoing tournaments, and both conferences have opted, as of right now, to continue its tournament without fans.
This is the worst Championship Week ever. The ACC and SEC have awarded their respective outright regular season champs, Florida State and Kentucky, as conference champs. If the NCAA Tournament goes forward, it will be the Seminoles' 18th trip to the Big Dance and 4th in a row, and the Wildcats' 60th NCAA Tournament appearance and 7th in a row.
A similar result would seem to make sense in the other conferences where there was an outright regular season champ -- the America East (Vermont), A-10 (Dayton), Big 12 (Kansas), Big Sky (Eastern Washington), Big West (UC Irvine), Conference USA (North Texas), MAC (Akron), Pac-12 (Oregon), Southland (Stephen F. Austin), Sun Belt (Little Rock), SWAC (Prairie View A&M), and WAC (New Mexico State) -- but it's unclear how the automatic bids from the other conferences will be determined, as they all had ties for the regular season championship. The AAC had a three-way tie between Cincinnati, Houston, and Tulsa, the Big East had a three-way tie between Creighton, Seton Hall, and Villanova, and the Big Ten had a three-way tie between Maryland, Michigan State, and Wisconsin.
Granted, all of those teams except Cincinnati and Tulsa were already locks for the NCAA Tournament, but regardless, the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee has its work cut out for it like never before.
I'll send out another update tomorrow morning if the MAAC and MEAC end up going forward, but I would be shocked if they did, given that everyone else has canceled their tournaments. Why can't President Trump just declare that the Coronavirus is a hoax so that our fair nation can move forward with its brackets?!
Already clinched automatic berths (I will add in parentheses the NCAA tournament appearances for each school, including the bid just clinched, and for conferences whose tournaments have not yet ended, I'll list the date of the championship game)
