Updated Championship Week Predictions: "Great Expectations"

Today's Championship Week theme song is my favorite Gaslight Anthem song, "Great Expectations."  Yesterday was a reminder that great expectations mean nothing in March, as we had five 1-seeds and 2-seeds go down yesterday:  A-Sun East 1-seed Liberty, A-Sun West 1-seed Jacksonville State, MVC 1-seed Northern Iowa, MVC 2-seed Missouri State, and Sun Belt 1-seed Texas State.

Here's what happened in yesterday's action:

• In the OVC title game, top seed Murray State held off 3-seed Morehead State, 71-67.  The Racers will be playing in their 18th NCAA Tournament bid and first since 2019.
• In the A-Sun semis, the top two seeds went down.  East 1-seed Liberty fell to West 2-seed Bellarmine, 53-50, while West 1-seed Jacksonville State was upset by East 2-seed Jacksonville.  Somewhere Artis Gilmore is smiling.  When they meet in Tuesday's final, the Knights will be playing for nothing but pride, as they are ineligible for the NCAA Tournament because they are still in their transition period from D-II, and the Dolphins will be playing for their 6th NCAA Tournament berth and first since 1986.  I'll be honest, I'm not sure what happens if Bellarmine wins.  I assume Jacksonville will be the league's automatic qualifier, but I can't find anything online to confirm that.
• In the Big South semis, top seed Longwood dropped 4-seed South Carolina Upstate, 79-70, and 2-seed Winthrop beat 3-seed Gardner-Webb, 76-67.  When they face off in today's final, the Lancers will be playing for their first ever trip to the Big Dance, while the Eagles will be playing for their 12th trip and second in a row.
• In the MVC semis, 4-seed Loyola (IL) took down 1-seed Northern Iowa, 66-43, and 3-seed Drake beat 2-seed Missouri State in OT, 79-78, thanks to two free throws with 1 second left.  When they play in today's final, the Ramblers will be playing for their 8th NCAA Tournament appearance and second in a row, while the Bulldogs will be playing for their 6th appearance and second in a row.
• In the NEC semis, top seed Bryant needed two free throws as time expired to beat 4-seed Mount St. Mary's for a 70-69 win, and 2-seed Wagner trounced 3-seed LIU, 82-62.  When they meet in Tuesday's championship game, the Bulldogs will be playing for their first NCAA Tournament bid, and the Seahawks will be playing for their second and first since 2003.
• In the SoCon quarterfinals, all the higher seeds won.  1-seed Chattanooga held off 9-seed The Citadel, 71-66, 2-seed Furman beat 7-seed Mercer, 80-66, 3-seed Samford squeaked by 6-seed UNC Greensboro, 66-64, and 4-seed Wofford beat 5-seed VIM, 68-66, to advance to today's semis.
• In the first half of the Summit quarterfinals, top seed South Dakota State dropped 8-seed Omaha, 87-79, and 2-seed North Dakota State beat up on 7-seed Denver, 82-62, to advance to Monday's semis.
• In the Sun Belt quarterfinals, 8-seed Louisiana upset 1-seed Texas State, 79-72, 2-seed Appalachian State took down 10-seed Georgia Southern, 73-60, 3-seed Georgia State beat 6-seed Arkansas State, 65-62, and 4-seed Troy beat 12-seed Little Rock, 69-62, to advance to today's semis.
• In the Third Round of the WCC, 4-seed San Francisco beat 5-seed BYU, 75-63, and 3-seed Santa Clara crushed 6-seed Portland, 91-67, to advance to Monday's semis.
• In the First Round of the CAA, 9-seed Northeastern topped 8-seed William & Mary, 68-63 in OT, to advance to today's quarterfinals.
• No conference tournaments start today, but 8 conference tournaments have games today, including two finals (Big South, MVC), 3 with semifinals (SoCon, Summit, Sun Belt) and 3 with quarterfinals (America East, CAA, Patriot).
