Updated Championship Week Predictions: The Dream is Over

We should have about 13 hours of Championship Week goodness today, from the 11 a.m. Eastern tip-off of the Sacramento State/Northern Colorado first round matchup in the Big Sky Tournament to the Cal/Stanford game in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament and the MTSU/North Texas game in the second round of the Conference USA Tournament that tip off at 10 p.m. Eastern.  Today's Championship Week theme song is Van Halen's "The Dream is Over" because, in the 33 basketball games today, some teams will keep their dreams alive today, while, as the song goes, some teams will have to dream another dream because this season's dream is over.  

Here's what happened in yesterday's action and what we have to look forward to today:

• In the CAA title game, 6-seed Drexel held off 8-seed Elon, 63-56, to prevent The Phoenix from going to their first-ever Big Dance.  The Dragons will be playing in their 5th NCAA Tournament and first since 1996.
• In the Horizon League championship, 1-seed Cleveland State took care of 3-seed Oakland, 80-69, to clinch the Vikings' 3rd trip to the Big Dance and first since 2009.  In both of their previous two trips to the NCAA Tournament, they have scored first round upsets, as a 13-seed in 1986 (when they advanced to the Sweet 16) and as a 14-seed in 2009.
• In the NEC final, 4-seed Mount St. Mary's beat 2-seed Bryant, 73-68, to give the Bulldogs their first loss at home all year and prevent them from going to their first-ever NCAA Tournament.  The Mountaineers will be playing in their 6th NCAA Tournament and first since 2017.
• In the Summit championship, 4-seed Oral Roberts let a 25-point lead slip away against 3-seed North Dakota State, but they sealed it at the end and pulled out a 75-72 victory.  The Golden Eagles will be playing in their 6th NCAA Tournament and first since 2008.
• In the WCC title game, 1-seed Gonzaga pulled away late for a deceiving 88-78 win over 2-seed BYU.  Both teams are locks for the NCAA Tournament, and the Bulldogs will likely get the overall 1-seed.  They'll be playing in their 22nd NCAA Tournament and first since 2019.
• In the First Round of the ACC, 10-seed Duke destroyed 15-seed Boston College, 86-51, to keep its slim NCAA Tournament hopes alive, 11-seed Notre Dame beat 14-seed Wake Forest on a 3 at the buzzer, 80-77, and 13-seed Miami beat 12-seed Pitt, 79-73, to advance to today's second round.
• In the First Round of the Big West, 10-seed Cal Poly won its fourth game of the year, pulling out a 87-82 win over 7-seed Cal State Fullerton, and 8-seed Long Beach State beat 9-seed Cal State Northridge, 85-63, to advance to Thursday's quarterfinals.
• In the First Round of Conference USA, West 6-seed Rice beat West 7-seed Southern Mississippi, 61-52, and East 6-seed automatically advanced against East 7-seed FIU due to an uncontested contest, to advance to today's second round.
• In the second day of the First Round of the MAAC, 7-seed Fairfield needed OT to beat 10-seed Manhattan, 59-58, and 9-seed Iona dumped on 8-seed Quinnipiac, 72-48, to advance to the quarterfinals, which will be held today and tomorrow.  Never count the Gaels out in the MAAC Tournament!
• In the first round of the Southland, 10-seed Houston Baptist beat 7-seed Incarnate Word, 80-68, and 8-seed Southeastern Louisiana topped 9-seed McNeese State, 71-68, to advance to today's second round.
• 9 conference tournaments start today -- Big 12, Big East, Big Sky, Big Ten, Mountain West, Pac-12, SEC, SWAC, and the wiggity-wiggity-wiggity-wiggity-wiggity-wiggity WAC -- and 14 conference tournaments have games today.  There are no championship games until Saturday, but today there is one tournament with semifinals (Patriot) and 3 with quarterfinals (MAAC, SWAC, WAC).
