Updated Championship Week Predictions: Another Saturday Night

Today's Championship Week theme song is the inimitable Sam Cooke's classic "Another Saturday Night."  But folk, it's very much not another Saturday night.  For there is no night like the first Saturday of Championship week because the first bid will be clinched!  Well, in a normal year.  But this is 2021, so it's just another Saturday night.

Here's what happened in yesterday's action and what we have to look forward to today:

• In the OVC semis, top seed Belmont staved off 4-seed Jacksonville State, 72-69, and 2-seed Morehead State pulled one out against 3-seed Eastern Kentucky, 67-64.  They will meet this evening for what should have been the first bid to the 2021 Big Dance (see the A-Sun below).  The Bruins are playing for their 9th bid to the Big Dance and first since 2019 (though they also won the OVC Tournament last year and would have gone to the NCAA Tournament had there been one), and the Eagles are playing for their 8th trip and first since 2011.
• In the Atlantic Sun semifinals, top seed Liberty crushed 7-seed Stetson's dream of a Cinderella run to its first NCAA Tournament appearance with a 77-64 win, and 5-seed North Alabama beat 6-seed Florida Gulf Coast, 96-81.  When they meet in tomorrow's title game, the Flames will be playing for their 5th NCAA Tournament bid and first since 2019, and makes this the least climactic conference championship in A-Sun history, as North Alabama not eligible to play in the NCAA Tournament because it is still in the transition period to D-1, so Liberty clinches the first bid to the 2021 NCAA Tournament!
• In the A-10 quarterfinals, everything was chalk, as top seed St. Bonaventure beat 9-seed Duquesne, 75-59, 2-seed VCU held off 7-seed Dayton, 73-68, 3-seed Davidson destroyed 6-seed George Mason, 99-67, and 4-seed St. Louis downed 5-seed UMass, 86-72, to advance to today's semis.
• In the MVC quarters, 1-seed Loyola (IL) curbstomped 9-seed Southern Illinois, 73-49, 2-seed Drake automatically advanced after 7-seed Northern Iowa had to back out because of COVID, 3-seed Missouri State beat 6-seed Valparaiso, 66-55, and 4-seed Indiana State topped 5-seed Evansville, 53-43, to advance to today's semifinals.
• In the First Round of the SoCon, 7-seed Mercer dumped on 10-seed Samford, 87-59, 8-seed The Citadel beat 9-seed Western Carolina, 100-86, to advance to today's quarterfinals.
• In the First Round of the Sun Belt, East 3-seed South Alabama beat West 6-seed Louisiana-Monroe, 80-72, East 6-seed Troy upset West 3-seed UT Arlington, 91-86, West 4-seed Arkansas State topped East 5-seed Georgia Southern, 62-58, and East 4-seed Appalachian State downed West 5-seed Little Rock, 67-60, to advance to today's quarterfinals.
• In the Second Round of the WCC, 5-seed Loyola Marymount beat 8-seed San Francisco, 70-66.  Somewhere Bo Kimble is shooting left-handed free throws.  Also, 7-seed Santa Clara beat 6-seed Pacific, 81-76.  Both advance to today's third round.
• 3 more conference tournaments start today -- the CAA, NEC, and the Summit -- and 10 conference tournaments have games today, including one final (OVC), 4 with semifinals (America East, A-10, MVC, NEC), and 3 with quarterfinals (Patriot, SoCon, Sun Belt).
