Updated Championship Week Predictions: "Call Me"

Today's Championship Week theme song is Blondie's "Call Me," which was the #1 song on the year-end Billboard Hot 100 in 1980 -- the last year Furman made the NCAA Tournament until this year.  Also, a couple 1-seeds went down last night, so they'll unfortunately be getting a call from the NIT.

Here's what happened yesterday, and what we have to look forward to:

• In the SoCon championship game, 1-seed Furman held off 7-seed Chattanooga, 88-79 to clinch, the Paladins' 7th trip to the NCAA Tournament and first since 1980.
• In the Sun Belt title game, it was a nail biter as 2-seed Louisiana beat 8-seed South Alabama, 71-66.  The Ragin' Cajuns will be playing in their 11th Big Dance and first since 2014.
• In the CAA semifinals, there were two great games.  4-seed UNC Wilmington upset 1-seed Hofstra, 79-73 in OT, and 2-seed Charleston survived a double-digit comeback in the second half from 3-seed Towson to pull out a 77-72 win.  When they meet in tonight's title game, the Seahawks will be playing for their 7th NCAA Tournament berth and first since 2017, and the Cougars will be playing for their 6th berth and first since 2018.
• In the Horizon semis, another 1-seed went down, as 4-seed Northern Kentucky took down 1-seed Youngstown State, 75-63, while 3-seed Cleveland State led most of the game, beating 2-seed Milwaukee, 93-80.  In tonight's championship game, the Norse will be seeking their 3rd NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 2019, and the Vikings will be seeking their 4th appearance and first since 2021.
• In the Summit semis, 1-seed Oral Roberts survived a scare from 5-seed St. Thomas, pulling out a 70-65 win, and 3-seed North Dakota State downed 2-seed South Dakota State, 89-79.  When they face off tonight for the title, the Golden Eagles will be playing for their 6th NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 2021 -- when they went to the Sweet 16 as 15-seed and came within a point of making the Elite 8 -- and the Bison will be playing for their 5th appearance and first since 2019.
• In the WCC semis, top seed St. Mary's held off 5-seed BYU, 76-69, and 2-seed Gonzaga beat 6-seed San Francisco, 84-73.  In tonight's title game, both teams are locks for the NCAA Tournament.  The Gaels will be playing in their 12th Big Dance and second in a row, and the Bulldogs will be playing in their 25th and third in a row.  Gonzaga is also playing in its 25th WCC championship game in a row, and since 2009, this is the 10th time Gonzaga and St. Mary's have met in the championship game.
• In the second half of the Big Sky quarters, 3-seed Weber State dropped 6-seed Sacramento State, 70-64, and 4-seed Montana topped 5-seed Idaho State, 83-74, to advance to tonight's semifinals.
• In the Second Round of the Southland, which is effectively the quarterfinals, both of the higher-seeded teams went down, as 7-seed New Orleans upset 3-seed Southeastern Louisiana, 82-78, and 8-seed McNeese State upset 4-seed Nicholls State, 77-71, to advance to tonight's semis.
• 5 conference tournaments start today (ACC, A-10, Big West, MAAC, WAC), and a total of 13 conference tournaments have games today.
• Five bids are up for grabs today (CAA, Horizon, NEC, Summit, WCC -- though technically, the NEC bid has already been clinched by Fairleigh Dickinson because Merrimack is ineligible for the NCAA Tournament), three conference tournaments have semifinals today (America East, Big Sky, Southland), and none have quarterfinals.
