Updated Championship Week Predictions

All right, everyone.  All conference tournament brackets and seeds have now been set.  Things will start to bat shit nuts tomorrow and Wednesday.  But before that, here's what happened in yesterday's Championship Week action:

• The Big South championship game gave us our first true March Madness moment of 2018.  With the game tied at 52, Carlik Jones of 2-seed Radford hit a jumper from a few feet behind the arch as time expired, for the 55-52 win over 5-seed Liberty.  The team and home crowd went nuts -- as they should because the Highlanders are going dancing for the first time since 2009 (and 3rd time overall).
• In the Atlantic Sun championship game, 2-seed Lipscomb dropped 60 in the first half on 1-seed Florida Gulf Coast, building a seemingly insurmountable 29-point lead, which was extended to 32 in the second half before FGCU made a raging comeback to get within 5 (and scored 65 in the second half).  But alas, it was not enough, as The Bisons -- again, it's improperly pluralized -- held on for a 108-96 win to clinch a trip to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.
• In the MVC finals, 1-seed Loyola (IL) took care of business, beating 3-seed Illinois State handily, 65-49.  The Ramblers will going to their 6th NCAA Tournament and first since 1985 -- when they made the Sweet 16 before falling to Patrick Ewing and Georgetown (who would go on to lose the title game to Villanova) in a Jesuit on Jesuit matchup.  They also become the first Chicago team to go to the Big Dance since DePaul and UIC both went in 2004.
• In the Big Ten Tournament championship, 5-seed Michigan beat 3-seed Purdue to become the first school to win back-to-back Big Ten Tournaments since Ohio State in 2010 and 2011.  The Wolverines will be going to their 28th NCAA Tournament and third in a row.
• In the all-Illinois MVC semis, 1-seed Loyola (IL) survived a scare from 5-seed Bradley, while 2-seed Southern Illinois fell to 3-seed Illinois State.  They will be playing today for the title.  The Ramblers will be playing for their 6th NCAA Tournament and first since 1985, and the Redbirds will be playing for their 7th NCAA Tournament and first since 1998.
• In the Patriot League semis, the top two seeds -- Bucknell and Colgate -- advanced to Wednesday's final on Bucknell's home court in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.  The Bison -- notice the proper spelling, Lipscomb -- will be playing for their 8th NCAA Tournament appearance and second in a row, while the Raiders will be playing for their third Big Dance and first since 1996.  Somewhere Adonal Foyle is going nuts -- probably the Bay Area.
• In the semis of the SoCon, 1-seed UNC Greensboro needed a three-pointer with 20 seconds left to defeat 5-seed Wofford.  Apparently, God doesn't love a terrier after all.  In the other semi, 2-seed East Tennessee State beat 3-seed Furman, 63-52.  When they meet in the championship game tonight, the Spartans will be playing for their 3rd NCAA Tournament berth and first since 2001, while the Buccaneers will be playing for their 11th and second in a row.
• In the MAAC semis, 4-seed Iona -- the highest remaining seed in the tournament -- squeaked by 9-seed St. Peter's, 65-62.  In the other semi, 6-seed Fairfield beat 7-seed Quinnipiac to advance to the MAAC finals for the first time since 2012.  The Gaels will be playing for their 13th trip to the NCAA Tournament and 3rd in a row, while the Stags will be playing for their 4th and first since 1997.
• In the second half of the Summit League quarters, 5-seed North Dakota State took down 4-seed IPFW, 86-82.  In one of the better games of the day -- which I was streaming on my phone while watching the Oscars -- 3-seed Denver outlasted 6-seed Oral Roberts in double overtime, 90-89.  Denver sent the game into OT thanks to a flailing banked three with 2 seconds left in regulation.
• In the second half of the Horizon League quarterfinals, 6-seed Milwaukee upset 6-seed UIC, and 4-seed Oakland beat 5-seed IUPUI.  It's now 2-seed Wright State's tournament to lose.
• In the quarterfinals of the CAA, 1-seed Charleston, 2-seed Northeastern, 4-seed William & Mary, and 6-seed UNC Wilmington advanced to the semis.
• Twp tournaments start today (the MAC, the MEAC), 8 conference tournaments have games today, and 2 bids to the Big Dance are up for grabs today.
