Updated Championship Week Predictions

Things are about to get, dare I say it, mad.  Take a deep breath, for tomorrow we dine in basketball heaven.  But even today, we're set for about 12 hours of college basketball.  Here's what happened in yesterday's Championship Week action:

• In the MAAC title game, 4-seed Iona pulled away from 6-seed Fairfield in the second half, clinching the Gaels' 13th trip to the NCAA Tournament and 3rd in a row.  They seem to own the MAAC Tournament, regardless of seed, having won the last three as a 2, 3, and 4-seed, respectively.  The last time the Gaels didn't make the MAAC championship game was 2012.
• In the SoCon final, after being tied at halftime, 1-seed UNC Greensboro outscored 2-seed East Tennessee State by 15 in the second half for the SoCon title, avenging last year's title game loss to the Buccaneers.  The Spartans will be playing in their 3rd NCAA Tournament and first since 2001.
• In the Summit League semis, top seed South Dakota State beat up on 5-seed North Dakota State, 78-57, and 2-seed South Dakota crushed 3-seed Denver, 76-58.  Statewide bragging rights will be on the line in tonight's championship game in Sioux Falls -- a little more than an hour from both schools -- as the Jackrabbits will be playing for their 5th NCAA Tournament appearance and 3rd in a row, while the Coyotes will be playing for their NCAA Tournament since making the jump up to Division 1 in the 2008-2009 season.  The Coyotes will be also looking to avenge last year's semifinals loss to the Jackrabbits, when the Coyotes were the 1-seed.
• In the Horizon League semis, 8-seed Cleveland State -- who is 12-22! -- took down 4-seed Oakland in a low-scoring 44-43 affair, while 2-seed Wright State held off 6-seed Milwaukee, 59-53.  When they meet in the title game tonight, both teams will be playing for their 3rd NCAA Tournament berth.  The Vikings haven't been there since 2009, while the Raiders haven't been to the Big Dance since 2007.
• In the semis of the CAA, 1-seed Charleston ensured that 4-seed William & Mary will remain one of the four original D-1 teams never to have made the NCAA Tournament, with an 83-73 win.  In the other semi, 2-seed Northeastern destroyed 6-seed UNC Wilmington.  In tonight's championship game, the Cougars will be gunning for their 5th NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 1999, while Huskies will be playing for their 9th and first since 2015.
• In the WCC semis, 1-seed Gonzaga dominated 4-seed San Francisco, 88-60, preventing the Dons from getting that elusive third NCAA title for the 62nd year in a row.  Bill Russell ain't walkin' through that door, boys.  In the other semi, 2-seed St. Mary's were upset by 3-seed BYU, 85-72.  The Bulldogs and Cougars will meet in the title game tonight.  Gonzaga has now made it to 21 WCC Tournament championship games in a row, winning 16.  The Bulldogs are a lock for the NCAA Tournament -- and maybe a 1-seed -- and will be playing in their 21st Big Dance and 20th in a row.  The Cougars will be playing for their 30th NCAA Tournament and first since 2015.  BYU will also try to be the first school since 2008 not named Gonzaga or St. Mary's to win the WCC Tournament.  Meanwhile, St. Mary's should still get an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, but the semifinal loss makes things a little less certain.
• In the first round of the miggity-miggity-miggity-miggity-miggity-miggity MAC, 11-seed Akron beat 6-seed Western Michigan.  Other than that, it went chalk, with 5-seed Kent State, 7-seed Miami, and 8-seed Central Michigan advancing to the quarterfinals.
• In the first half of the first round of the MEAC, 4-seed North Carolina A&T -- who I boldly chose as my pick to win the MEAC -- eked by 13-seed Delaware State with a 62-61 win in OT, while 5-seed Norfolk State beat 12-seed Maryland Eastern Shore.
• Three more tournaments start today (the ACC, Big Sky, and SWAC), 10 conference tournaments have games today, and 5 automatic bids are up for grabs today.
