Updated Championship Week Predictions

Five more bids were clinched in yesterday's Championship Week action.  Here's everything that happened:

• In the Summit League final, in the battle of the Mount Rushmore State, 1-seed South Dakota State topped 2-seed South Dakota in a high-scoring 97-87 game.  The Jackrabbits will be playing in their 5th NCAA Tournament, 3rd in a row, and 4th in the last 6 years.
• In the NEC championship game, 4-seed LIU-Brooklyn upset 1-seed Wagner on Wagner's home court to take home the NEC title.  The Blackbirds will be going to their 7th NCAA Tournament and first since 2013.
• In the Horizon League final, 8-seed Cleveland State's Cinderella run came to an end at the hands of 2-seed Wright State, 74-57.  The Raiders are going to their 3rd NCAA Tournament and first since since 2007.
• In the CAA championship, 1-seed Charleston and 2-seed Northeastern needed overtime to sort things out, with Charleston pulling away in the extra period for an 83-76.  The Cougars will be playing in their 5th NCAA Tournament and first since 1999.  Cue the "party like it's 1999" posters on Broad Street.
• In the WCC final, 1-seed Gonzaga trounced 3-seed BYU, 74-54, for their 6th WCC Tournament title in a row.  The Bulldogs will be playing in their 21st Big Dance and 20th in a row.  They are projected to be a 3-seed or 4-seed in the NCAA Tournament, which seems a little low, given that they haven't lost since January 18, and their only losses are to Florida and Villanova on neutral courts and at St. Mary's and San Diego State by a combined five points.  To me, the Zags look like they have a pretty decent shot of making a second Final Four run in a row.
• In the America East semifinals, top seed Vermont destroyed 4-seed Stony Brook, 70-51, while 2-seed UMBC beat up on 3-seed Hartford, 75-60.  Somewhere, Vin Baker is crying -- probably somewhere in the greater Milwaukee area.  When they meet in the title game Saturday morning, the Catamounts will be playing for their 7th NCAA Tournament berth and second in a row, and the Retrievers will be playing for their 2nd NCAA Tournament berth and first since 2008.
• In the SWAC quarterfinals, top seed Arkansas-Pine Bluff held off 8-seed Mississippi Valley State, 77-74. 2-seed Prairie View A&M, 3-seed Texas Southern, and 4-seed Southern also advanced to the semis.  Note that regular season champ Grambling State and regular season bottom dweller Alabama A&M are ineligible for post-season play because of APR violations, which leaves 8 teams.
• In the second half of the first round of the MEAC, 6-seed North Carolina Central, 7-seed Morgan State, 9-seed Florida A&M advanced to the quarterfinals.
• In the first round of the ACC, 10-seed Notre Dame kept its slim NCAA Tournament hopes alive by barely beating 15-seed Pitt.  Same goes for 11-seed Syracuse, who beat 14-seed Wake Forest, 73-64.  12-seed Boston College also advanced to the second round.
• In the first round of the Big Sky, 5-seed Northern Colorado, 6-seed Portland State, 8-seed North Dakota, and 10-seed Southern Utah advanced to the quarterfinals.
• Nine more tournaments start today, 12 conference tournaments have games today, and one automatic bid is up for grabs today.  There are 32 games today, spanning about 14 hours.  Enjoy.
