Retro Video of the Week: "Gone Away" by The Offpsring

This Friday marks the 25th anniversary of the release of The Offspring's fourth studio album, Ixnay On the Hombre.  It would be tough to follow up their 6x platinum 1994 album Smash, but they made a valiant effort.  Ixnay On the Hombre went to #9 on the Billboard album chart and was eventually certified platinum in the U.S.  It's kind of lost in the mix between Smash and their 1998 album Americana, which went 5x platinum.

None of the singles released from the album charted on the Billboard Hot 100, but that's in part because, like the singles from Smash, they weren't commercially released as actual singles, which was the criteria for inclusion on the Billboard Hot 100 at the time.  However, they all had success on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks and Mainstream Rock Tracks charts.  "All I Want" went to #13 and #18 on the respective charts, "Gone Away" went to #4 and #1, and "I Choose" went to #24 and #5.

I went with "Gone Away" for this week's Retro Video of the Week because it's probably my favorite post-Smash song by the band.  It was their first #1 song on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, and video is a rather bleak one, not representing what I felt was a pretty happy overall feeling in the mid to late '90s.
