CoronaVinyl Day 418 (A): Tom Jones Soundtrack by John Addison

For an explanation of CoronaVinyl, click here.

We're back to the top of the alphabet with "A," and I went with John Addison's soundtrack to the 1963 British comedy Tom Jones.

Despite what you may think -- especially from the amount of ladies' shoes next to the bed on the album cover -- Tom Jones is not a film about the Welsh singing lothario of the same name.  Rather, it's a film adaptation of a 1749 novel by Henry Fielding about a bastard named Tom Jones just looking to make it in a society driven by class-based thinking and customs.  The film was quite a smashing success, winning four Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Original Score for this here soundtrack, which was composed and conducted by John Addison, who was in the middle of a long and successful film and TV score career.  The score also won a Grammy.

Since it's all score and classical type music, I'm not going to pick a favorite song from each side.
