Updated Championship Week Predictions: "Bye Bye Bye"

Three more bids were clinched yesterday!  And a gaggle of top seeds lost:  Big Sky 1-seed Eastern Washington and 2-seed Northern Colorado in the quarterfinals, CAA 2-seed Drexel and 4-seed UNC Wilmington in the quarterfinals, MVC 1-seed Indiana State in the title game, Patriot 2-seed Boston in the semifinals, Summit 3-seed North Dakota in the quarterfinals, and Sun Belt 1-seed Appalachian State in the semifinals.  Madness!  And all of the remaining conference tournament brackets have been set.  We're through the looking glass, people.  In mere six days, we will have our Field of 68.  In honor of the Longwood Lancers' second Big South Tournament title in the last three years, today's song is "Bye Bye Bye" by NSYNC, featuring Lance Bass.  It also fits because of all the teams that said "bye bye bye" earlier than they were expected to do so.

Here's what happened in yesterday's action and what we have to look forward to:
  • In the A-Sun championship game, 2-seed Stetson beat 4-seed Austin Peay in a 94-91 thriller, clinching the Hatters' first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
  • In the Big South title game, 5-seed Longwood demolished 2-seed UNC Asheville, 85-59.  The Lancers will be playing in their 2nd NCAA Tournament and first since 2022.
  • In the MVC championship game, 2-seed Drake held off a furious second-half comeback to beat top seed Indiana State, 84-80.  The Bulldogs will be playing in their 7th NCAA Tournament and second in a row.  The Sycamores now have to anxiously watch the remaining Championship Week games and root against other bubble teams and potential bid stealers.
  • In the Patriot League semis, top seed Colgate squeaked by 5-seed Bucknell, 68-65, and 6-seed Lehigh upset 2-seed Boston, 84-79 in OT.  When they meet in Wednesday's title game, the Raiders will be seeking their 7th NCAA Tournament appearance and fourth in a row, and the Mountain Hawks will be seeking their 6th appearance and first since 2012, when they upset Duke as a 15-seed in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
  • In the SoCon semifinals, 1-seed Samford held off 5-seed Furman, 84-77, and 7-seed East Tennessee State continued its surprise run by beating 3-seed Chattanooga, 85-84 in OT.  When they clash tonight in the championship game, the Bulldogs will be playing for their 3rd NCAA Tournament bid and first since 2000, while the Buccaneers will be playing for their 11th bid and first since 2017.
  • In the Sun Belt semis, 4-seed Arkansas State upset 1-seed Appalachian State, 67-65, on a jumper at the buzzer, and 2-seed James Madison held off 11-seed Texas State, 73-68, to become the first D-1 team this season to win 30 games.  When they face off in tonight's title game, the Red Wolves will be playing for their 2nd NCAA Tournament berth and first since 1999, and the Dukes will be playing for their 6th berth and first since 2013.
  • In the first half of the Big Sky quarterfinals, 10-seed Sacramento State upset 1-seed Eastern Washington, 74-69, and 8-seed Idaho State followed that up by upsetting 2-seed Northern Colorado, 83-76, to advance to tomorrow's semis.
  • In the CAA quarterfinals, top seed Charleston dominated 8-seed Monmouth, 83-59, 7-seed Stony Brook upset 2-seed Drexel, 91-88 in OT, 3-seed Hofstra downed 6-seed Delaware, 73-58, and 5-seed Towson beat 4-seed UNC Wilmington, 66-56, to advance to today's semifinals.
  • In the second half of the Summit quarters, 6-seed Omaha got a game-winning jumper with 3 seconds left to upset 3-seed North Dakota, 73-72, and 4-seed St. Thomas bounced 5-seed North Dakota State, 68-58, to advance to tonight's semifinals.
  • In the First Round of the Southland, 8-seed New Orleans upset 5-seed Southeastern Louisiana, 78-66, and 7-seed Texas A&M-Commerce beat 6-seed Northwestern State, 69-64, to advance to today's second round, which is effectively their quarterfinals.
  • No conference tournaments start today, and eight conference tournaments have games today.
  • Two conference tournaments have title games today (SoCon, Sun Belt), four conference tournaments have semifinals today (CAA, Horizon, Summit, WCC), and two conference tournaments have quarterfinals today (Big Sky, Southland).
  • Here are the teams still playing in the conference tournaments that have never been to the NCAA Tournament (not including teams who are ineligible for this year's NCAA Tournament):
    • America East:  2-seed UMass Lowell, 4-seed New Hampshire
    • Atlantic Sun:  2-seed Stetson
    • Big Sky:  10-seed Sacramento State
    • Big West:  5-seed UC Riverside
    • MAAC:  1-seed Quinnipiac
    • MEAC:  7-seed Maryland Eastern Shore
    • NEC:  2-seed Merrimack
    • Summit:  6-seed Omaha, 7-seed Denver
    • SWAC:  1-seed Grambling, 5-seed Bethune-Cookman
    • WAC:  5-seed Utah Valley, 8-seed Cal Baptist
  • Bubble teams that won yesterday (in conference tournaments):  Drake, James Madison
  • Bubble teams that lost yesterday (in conference tournaments):  Indiana State
  • Bubble teams that did not play yesterday (in conference tournaments) or whose conference tournaments have not yet started:  Boise State, Colorado, Colorado State, Florida Atlantic, Iowa, Kansas State, McNeese, Memphis, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, Princeton, Providence, Seton Hall, South Florida, St. John's, Syracuse, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Utah, Villanova, Virginia, Wake Forest
