Updated Championship Week Predictions: "You Never Can Tell"

Five more bids were clinched yesterday!  And though we are halfway through Championship Week, only eleven automatic bids have been clinched, which means we still have 21 to go.  Now is when things really start to get, dare I say it, mad.  Today, from the tip of the George Mason/St. Joseph's game in the A-10 Tournament second round at 11:30 a.m. ET to the finish of four games that tip off at 11:30 p.m. ET, we have 43 college basketball games in 18 conferences across over 14+ hours.  Today's March Madness-themed song is in honor of the South Dakota Jackrabbits' Summit League Tournament championship.  I'm going with Chuck Berry's "You Never Can Tell," which was featured in the iconic Mia Wallace and Vincent Vega twist contest scene in Pulp Fiction that took place at . . . Jack Rabbit Slim's.

Here's what happened in yesterday's action and what we have to look forward to:

• In the CAA title game, top seed Charleston topped 7-seed Stony Brook in an exciting 82-79 overtime affair.  The Cougars will be playing in their 7th NCAA Tournament and second in a row.
• In the Horizon championship game, 1-seed Oakland held off 6-seed Milwaukee, 83-76, to clinch the Golden Grizzlies' 4th NCAA Tournament bid and first since 2011.
• In the NEC title game, 6-seed Wagner upset 2-seed Merrimack, 54-47, in Merrimack's home gym, no less.  The Seahawks will be going to their 2nd NCAA Tournament and first since 2003.
• In the Summit title game, top seed South Dakota State held off a second-half comeback to beat 7-seed Denver, 76-68.  The Jackrabbits will be playing in their 7th NCAA Tournament and first since 2022.
• In the WCC championship, 1-seed St. Mary's topped 2-seed Gonzaga, 69-60.  As I noted yesterday, both teams are locks for the NCAA Tournament. The Gaels will be playing in their 13th NCAA Tournament and third in a row.
• In the America East semifinals, top seed Vermont beat 4-seed New Hampshire, 66-59, and 2-seed UMass Lowell downed 3-seed Bryant, 76-70.  When they play in Saturday's title game, the Catamounts will be seeking their 10th NCAA Tournament berth and third in a row, while the River Hawks will be seeking their first ever berth.
• In the Big Sky semis, 3-seed Montana bounced 8-seed Idaho State, 72-58, and 5-seed Montana State beat 10-seed Sacramento State in an exciting 74-71 win.  When they face off in tonight's title game, the Grizzlies will be playing for their 13th NCAA Tournament bid and first since 2019, and the Bobcats will be playing for their 6th bid and third in a row.  While both teams have won four of the last five Big Sky Tournament titles (two each), they have only faced each other once in the Big Sky Tournament championship game, way back in 1986.
• In the Southland semifinals, 1-seed McNeese dominated 4-seed Lamar, 76-57, and 3-seed Nicholls beat 2-seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 81-73 in OT, ending the Islanders' hopes of a threepeat.  When they meet in this evening's championship game, the Cowboys will be playing for their 3rd trip to the Big Dance and first since 2002, and the Colonels will be playing for third 3rd trip and first since 1998.
• In the First Round of the ACC, 10-seed NC State beat 15-seed Louisville, 94-85, 11-seed Boston College bounced 14-seed Miami (who followed up last year's Final Four run with a 15-17 season), and 12-seed Notre Dame outlasted 13-seed Georgia Tech, to advance to today's second round. 
• In the First Round of the A-10, there were three games that came down to the wire, as 10-seed LaSalle beat 15-seed George Washington, 61-60, 14-seed St. Louis upset 11-seed Rhode Island, 74-71, and 12-seed Fordham needed OT to beat 13-seed Davidson, 71-63, to advance to today's second round.
• In the First Round of the Big 12, 11-seed Cincinnati beat 14-seed West Virginia, 90-85, and 12-seed UCF made easy work of 13-seed Oklahoma State, 77-62, to advance to today's second round.
• In the First Round of the C-USA, 9-seed FIU downed 8-seed Jacksonville State, 76-67, to advance to today's quarterfinals
• In the First Round of the MAAC, 6-seed Niagara survived 11-seed Siena, 67-65, 7-seed Iona squeaked by 10-seed Manhattan, 60-57, and 9-seed Canisius dropped 8-seed Mount St. Mary's, to advance to the quarterfinals, which are today and tomorrow.
• Ten conference tournaments start today, and 18 conference tournaments have games today.
• Three conference tournaments have title games today (Big Sky, Patriot, Southland), no conference tournaments have semifinals today, and four conference tournaments have quarterfinals today (C-USA, MAAC, MEAC, SWAC).
