Retro Video of the Week: "Stand and Deliver" by Adam and The Ants

Forty years ago yesterday, British new wave band Adam and The Ants released their third studio album, Prince Charming.  It would be the final album that would be credited to "Adam and The Ants," as future albums would be released under the name "Adam Ant."

The album was a big hit in the band's native land, reaching #2 on the UK album chart and spawning two #1 hits on the UK pop chart, the title track and "Stand and Deliver," and another Top 5 hit, "Ant Rap" (#3).

I'm going with "Stand and Deliver."  It's a catchy new wave classic, and the video is garishly hilarious.  Would that be "hilgarious" or "garishlarious"?  Lead singer Adam Ant portrays a highwayman who uses the chorus "stand and deliver / your money or your life" -- a popular phrase among 18th Century English highwaymen, apparently -- as he shoves mirrors in people's faces in some weird new wave version of Georgian England.  It's videos like this that really make me miss the MTV era.
