I meant to post this yesterday, but got caught up watching several episodes of Modern Family. Anyway, for a brief period of time in early to mid 1988, Terence Trent D'Arby was pretty big. He won the Grammy in 1988 for Best R&B Vocal Performance for this debut album, Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D'Arby, which got all the way up to #4 on the Billboard album charts and went to #1 in the UK and Australia. The album spawned three Top 40 hits in the U.S., including two Top 5 hits, "Sign Your Name, which went to #4, and "Wishing Well," which went all the way to #1.
Unfortunately for him, Terence Trent D'Arby's biggest fan was Terence Trent D'Arby. He was notorious for his arrogance and once declared that his debut album was the most important album since The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. It was not. Nonetheless, "Wishing Well" is a nice little piece of '80s R&B.
