Rocktober Hair Band Song #5: "Smooth Up In Ya" by BulletBoys

BulletBoys were a Sunset Strip band that formed in 1987 out of the ashes of hard rock band King Kobra.  Lead singer Marq Torien -- thus far the only person I know who has spelled "mark" with a "q" at the end -- was also a guitarist in Ratt before the band got signed.  Despite having what I consider to be some pretty solid songs, BulletBoys didn't break through on the charts.  Their 1988 self-titled debut album got up to #34 on the Billboard album charts, while their 1991 follow-up, Freakshow, stalled out at #69.  Of course, by that time, grunge had hit, and hair bands were starting to die out in popularity in general.

Their highest-charting song and, in my opinion, their best one, is "Smooth Up In Ya" off of their debut album.  It reached #71 on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as #23 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.  The video also found its way into MTV's rotation, as hair band videos were wont to do back then.  I think it's a good rocking song with a nice groove, and the message is fairly representative of hair band music in general.
