For the first installment of the inaugural It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Beer, I'm going with one of many varieties of beer I got last week while visiting Porkopolis for Thanksgiving: West Sixth Christmas Ale. Just across the Kentucky border from Cincy, there is a wonderful place called The Party Source, which has a giant selection of beer, among other things. It might be the coolest place in Kentucky not called Churchill Downs. Anyway, I decided to grab some beers from Kentucky and Ohio breweries that I hadn't heard of before, and West Sixth Brewing was one of those breweries. Their Christmas Ale is a spicy little number, in the vein of many Christmas ales, with cinnamon being the most noticeable flavor and nutmeg a close second. It is deceptively strong, but it doesn't taste heavy enough to be a 9-percenter. Rest assured, it is.
Name: Christmas Ale
Brewery: West Sixth Brewing
Location: Lexington, Kentucky
ABV: 9%
IBU: N/A (but not hoppy in any way)
Good for drinking if: You want to get so bombed you forget that the college basketball team you so vehemently root for is actually a bunch of paid professionals, or you feel like watching a horrible Monday Night Football game between the Dolphins and Jets.
