Now that it's the holiday season, I will try to make all of the Retro Videos of the Week in December holiday-themed, starting off with everyone's favorite goofball Christmas song, "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" by Elmo & Patsy. I had no idea there was a video for this until about 20 minutes ago. It is exactly what you'd expect from a song with this title made in 1984.
It all takes place on a one-room set. The acting and lip-syncing is terrible. Grandpa has a youngish paramour that is not mentioned in the song, perhaps because Grandma appears to be a man. I had always assumed that, in getting run over by a reindeer (or nine), Grandma died, but the video suggests that, after sustaining non-life-threatening injuries, Grandma was thrown down the chimney (presumably by Santa Claus himself), reappearing to destroy her husband's dreams of having a May-December second marriage. I also particularly like the Hofbrau stein Grandpa is drinking out of.
