With IU poised to return to the NCAA tournament after a couple rough years, it appears that Tom Crean has the program headed in the right direction. With Selection Sunday only a few days away (squeeee! -- yeah, I just wrote that), it seems appropriate to have a Retro Video of the Week that has to do with college basketball. David Barrett sung the original version of "One Shining Moment," which is now played after the NCAA men's basketball title game as the background for the montage showing the tournament highlights. Teddy Pendergrass, Luther Vandross, and Jennifer Hudson have sung versions since Barrett. The song debuted after the 1987 championship game, which, of course, was when IU beat Syracuse on Keith Smart's baseline jumper with four seconds left. It's hard to believe that was 25 years ago, until you look at the length of the shorts. The song and the montage kick in at about the 1:46 mark. What a great bunch of coaches in that Final Four, by the way: Knight, Boeheim, Pitino, and Tarkanian.
