Updated Championship Week Predictions

Just because there were no conference title games last night doesn't mean some shit didn't go down.

  • My beloved Hoosiers won their first Big Ten Tournament game since 2006, knocking off Penn State handily.
  • The Bruce Weber era at Illinois came to a floundering to an end with a loss to Iowa.  On January 10, Illinois beat Ohio State to go to 15-3 and 4-1 in the Big Ten.  They are now 17-15.  Are we elite yet?
  • Several bubble teams may have played themselves out of the tournament.  The Rudy of the Big Ten, Northwestern, lost in the first round to Minnesota, which is a huge blow to the Wildcats' hopes of making the NCAA tournament for the first time ever.  USF, another bubble team that people seemed to be rallying around, lost to Notre Dame in the Big East quarterfinals.  Mississippi State lost in the SEC first round to 11-seed Georgia.
  • In the Pac-12 -- which I think we can all agree is by far the worst of the major conferences this year -- top seed Washington went down in the quarterfinals to Oregon State, and bubble team Oregon lost to Colorado.
  • Southland top seed UT Arlington lost in the semis to McNeese State, who will face the Lamar Cardinals in the final.
  • UConn lost to Syracuse, ending their 13-game postseason winning streak, so we don't have to hear about them anymore.
  • There were 7 overtime games, including a 2OT win for Cincinnati over Georgetown in the Big East quarterfinals and 3OT thriller in Conference USA, with Marshall pulling out a 105-100 victory of Tulsa.

Again, there are no championship games today, but there are 36 games, so calm down.  If you're stuck at work and want to watch one of the two early Big Ten games, go to www.btn2go.com.  Depending on your cable/satellite provider (and if you have the Big Ten Network), you can watch games on the Big Ten Network live on your computer.  There is also an app for the iPhone.

Here is who has already clinched an automatic berth, as well as my predictions for the remaining conference tournaments with TV listings, so that you have no excuse not to watch every single televised game.  You're welcome.
