Last
night, Wisconsin held off a pesky Penn State team in Happy Valley, 55-47, to
improve to 24-2 overall and 12-1 in the Big Ten. With two more victories, the Badgers will
have clinched at least a share of the Big Ten title. In the other game, Northwestern did what
Illinois and Purdue couldn't: beat
Minnesota in Williams Arena. It was the
Wildcats' second win in a row, and it was the second game in a row in which the
Golden Gophers have given up at least 15 3-pointers. Minnesota has now drifted above 100 in the
RPI, which means they are now categorized as a "bad loss." Barring a miraculous run to end the Big Ten
regular season (which includes two games against Wisconsin and one at Michigan
State) or an even-more miraculous Big Ten Tournament title win, the Gophers'
NCAA Tournament chances have all but died.
Tonight,
it is retribution time for the Hoosiers.
On
the slate tonight:
-Purdue
at Indiana (7:00 p.m. EST, ESPN)
-Nebraska
at Maryland (7:00 p.m. EST, BTN)
-Rutgers
at Iowa (8:00 p.m. EST, ESPNU)

tiebreaker over OSU based on 1-0 record vs. OSU)

7. Iowa (10-8)
8. Illinois (9-9) (would have

tiebreaker over Minnesota based on better combined record vs. MSU and OSU than
Minnesota)
11. Minnesota (6-12)

NCAA
Tournament Resumes for All 14 Big Ten Teams
Here
is each Big Ten team's updated NCAA Tournament resume. From top to bottom, I will list each team's
RPI (based on ESPN's
daily RPI), "good" wins (wins against RPI Top 50 teams or, if
none, the team's best win), "bad" losses (losses against teams with
an RPI of 101+ or, if none, the team's worst loss). An * means the game was played on a neutral
court, and for the "good" wins and "bad" losses, the team's
current RPI is identified. Also, I have
categorized the teams by "In," "Bubble," or
"Out," which is my best guess, based on what I know right now, as to
whether each team is a lock for the NCAA Tournament, is on the bubble, or is
out.
