Updated Championship Week Predictions

We had some upsets, some heartbreak, and some great games.  Here are some highlights from yesterday's Championship Week action:
  • Fucking Hoosiers.
  • In a huge upset, Big East top seed Villanova (ranked #3 in both polls) lost in the quarterfinals to 8-seed Seton Hall, potentially costing the Wildcats a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament depending on how some other conference tournaments shake out.
  • In the AAC, 3-seed SMU (ranked #25 in the AP and #23 in the coaches poll) fell to 6-seed Houston.  Meanwhile, 1-seed Louisville beat 8-seed Rutgers by 61 points, 92-31.  I haven't seen a score that lopsided since my Soviet-themed intramural team The Red Army lost by 69 at the IU HPER building back at the turn of the century.
  • In the Big Ten, 11-seed Northwestern beat 6-seed Iowa, giving the Hawkeyes their 6th loss in their last 7 games.  Iowa is still a lock for the NCAA Tournament, but in the last few weeks, they've played themselves from a 3-4 seed to probably a 9-11 seed.
  • In the Big West, 7-seed Cal Poly trounced my pick to win the conference tournament, 2-seed UC Santa Barbara, sending the Gauchos back to their beautiful ocean-side campus with their bistec between their legs.
  • Big 12 top seed Kansas needed overtime to beat 8-seed Oklahoma State.
  • In the SEC, 13-seed South Carolina may have ended 5-seed Arkansas's NCAA Tournament hopes with a 71-69 victory, especially after the Razorbacks lost last weekend to 13-18 Alabama.
  • Bubble teams that won yesterday:  Dayton, Florida State, Louisiana Tech, Minnesota, Missouri, Pittsburgh, Providence, Southern Miss, Stanford, Xavier
  • Bubble teams that lost yesterday:  Arizona State, Arkansas, Cal, Georgetown, St. John's, West Virginia
Again, there are no championship games today, but 18 total tournaments have games today, all with semifinal or quarterfinal matchups (on the list below, I've noted those tournaments in the quarterfinals -- everything else is in the semis).
